Arsenal are in the running to sign Bayern Munich’s Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic, the Daily Mail understands.
The 27-year-old forward played a crucial part in Bayern’s treble winning season last term, and scored a goal in the Champions League final too. Despite scoring a solid 12 goals in all competitions so far this term, Mandzukic is not indispensable to Pep Guardiola’s brilliant side.
With the highly likely arrival of Robert Lewandowski to Bayern in the summer, Mandzukic would seemingly drop down the pecking order, and Arsenal are keen to take advantage of this.
For this reason, it’s more likely the Croat would arrive at the end of the season, as Bayern will not want to dismantle their squad halfway through their Champions League and Bundesliga campaigns.
Mandzukic is brilliant in the air, and although not particularly quick, can finish off either foot. He can also hold the ball up well and retain possession, so would act as a fantastic rotation or replacement option for Olivier Giroud.
