A wonderful, team effort saw United take the lead against the Swans through Ander Herrera, but the Red Devils suffered just their second defeat in 20 matches after a surprising comeback through Ki and Shelvey.
That loss saw United slip-up in the chase for the Champions League places, getting overtaken by Arsenal who now sit a point of them ahead in third.
They will be wanting to get back to winning ways against the Black Cats as the season draws ever closer to an end and points become evermore crucial.
Here’s the team that could get United the three points:
GK: David De Gea
Maybe the only man who deserves his place in the Manchester United XI each week after almost single-handedly keeping them in the top-four race with his outstanding form.
RB: Antonio Valencia
The Ecuadorian could be recalled to the starting XI at the expense of Paddy McNair who would provide more attacking initiative and drive going forward.
CB: Phil Jones
In what has been a great display so far this season, Jones picked up just his second yellow card last weekend after becoming almost a permanent fixture in the United XI.
Great discipline and brilliant displays mean he is likely undroppable for the time being.
CB: Marcos Rojo
However, Jones’ partner, at the moment, in the middle, Rojo has had a hit-and-miss first season in a United shirt.
Will have to do better in the coming games if he wants to keep the likes of Smalling out of the first team.
LB: Luke Shaw
Could have an intriguing bout with Ricky Alvarez down the left hand side of the pitch which may be a difficult prospect for the England man with the Argentine able to cut seamlessly in-field.
