It has been another excellent weekend of football in the Premier League, with shocks, comebacks and excitement across the country. Now that the dust has settled, this is the team of the week chosen by fanatix:
GK) Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea)
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois didn’t have the busiest game against Leicester, but once again he looked completely assured between the sticks – and his fine save when David Nugent raced through one-on-one was a clear turning point in the match.
RB) Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City)
Manchester City right back Pablo Zabaleta is an undoubted class act, solid in defence and dangerous bursting forward during Monday night’s vital 3-1 victory over potential title rivals Liverpool.
CB) Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur)
Tottenham defender Eric Dier has had an incredible start to his career at White Hart Lane, again getting on the scoresheet as his side eviscerated woeful QPR, whilst also looking perfectly solid at the back for Mauricio Pochettino.
CB) Philippe Senderos (Aston Villa)
Against all the odds, free transfer Philippe Senderos has had an exceptional start to his career at Aston Villa, helping them to a second consecutive clean sheet with his display in the 0-0 draw against Newcastle United.
LB) Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea)
Chelsea full back Branislav Ivanovic has really risen to the challenge of new signing Filipe Luis, not to mention Cesar Azpilicueta, with the Serbian once again putting in a superb performance this weekend – he is far better and more dangerous going forward than he tends to be given credit for.
CM) Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)
Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has already made a huge difference to the Chelsea side, with his ability to create chances and help his side dominate possession once again in evidence as the Blues beat Leicester City 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
CM) Cheikhou Kouyaté (West Ham United)
New signing Cheikhou Koyaté had a superb game for West Ham as they strolled past Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, dominating the centre of midfield with his physicality and creativity, notching up an assist for the Hammers.
ARM) Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur)
Erik Lamela may have had a frustrating debut season at Tottenham Hotspur, but the Argentine already seems to be finding his feet under Mauricio Pochettino, having been a creative and exciting presence during their 4-0 win over QPR at the weekend.
ALM) David Silva (Manchester City)
Manchester City playmaker David Silva is one of the finest players in the Premier League and he put in a masterful display as his side picked up a vital 3-1 victory over Liverpool at Eastlands, with the Reds never having been able to cope with the silky Spaniard.
SC) Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)
Striker Olivier Giroud was the man who made the difference for Arsenal as they came back to draw 2-2 at Goodison Park on Saturday evening, changing the momentum in the Gunners’ favour before he headed home a fine equaliser to claim a precious point.
SC) Stevan Jovetic (Manchester City)
Stevan Jovetic endured a frustrating first season at Manchester City last campaign, largely due to injury, but he has started this one well and made the difference against Liverpool, causing all manner of issues for the defence and bagging two well-taken goals.
