2. Chelsea hijack Man United bid for Pedro
For weeks there had been reports that Man United were inching close and closer to a deal for the Barcelona superstar with a championship pedigree, but at the last minute Chelsea swooped in and got his signature. Pedro immediately rewarded Chelsea with a goal and two assists in his first two matches for the Blues.
Meanwhile, Man United went winless in two matches since the move.
1. David de Gea trapped at Man United after fax fail
It was a saga that had stretched for seemingly-countless months that was finally going to reach a merciful conclusion: David de Gea wanted out of Old Trafford and Man United were finally willing to reach an agreement with Real Madrid for his transfer.
But some late paperwork filing – with both Man United and Real Madrid blaming one another – caused the two clubs to miss the deadline, trapping De Gea at Old Trafford until his contract expires at the end of the year (and possibly wrecking the working relationship between the Red Devils and the La Liga giants).
