7. Ricky Williams – The 1998 Heisman trophy winner and widely considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, college RBs of all-time, the New Orleans Saints actually traded their entire 1999 draft class to move up and grab him. But Williams’ NFL career was consistently dogged by failed drug tests from his near-constant marijuana use. He retired multiple times to avoid inevitable suspensions for his drug violations. Williams is not necessarily a bad guy or a fun-loving guy, he has admitted being very shy and was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, avoidance disorder, and borderline personality disorder, with which he struggled to cope during his football career.
6. Plaxico Burress – The man who caught the game-winning TD in Superbowl XLII, Burress was a dominating receiver for the Steelers and Giants for nearly a decade prior to his fateful 2008 season. In that year, Burress was fined over $50,000 for numerous conduct violations, and was suspended for skipping team activities without permission. But the worst incident of all came in when he brought a loaded gun into a nightclub which went off and shot him in the thigh. He was later arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment. He served almost two years in prison before being released in June 2011. Burress was able to somewhat resurrect his career in a one-year stint with the New York Jets. In 2011, he signed with the Jets and led the team in TDs. SportingNews named him Comeback Player of the Year for his hard work on the field.
