1. Aaron Hernandez – It could only be Hernandez. The former Patriots star TE teamed up with Rob Gronkowski to help bring New England to the Superbowl in 2011. He was dominant, averaging over 50 yards per game as a No. 2 TE – almost unprecedented – but he had a serious dark side. On July 16, 2012, he allegedly murdered two men in a drive-by shooting in Boston’s south end, but was only identified as a person of interest in the case. (It’s interesting to note that Hernandez would sign a 5-year contract extension worth over $30 million only 6 weeks later). Then on June 18, 2013, Hernandez allegedly shot semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd to death. The evidence against Hernandez appears staggering and he is currently facing life in prison for three counts of first-degree murder.
It is absolutely appalling that someone with as much of everything as Hernandez had simply could not or would not leave his violent pre-football life behind once he had the means to.
