The Arizona State Sun Devils beat Weber State, 45-14. Running back D.J. Foster led the charge with three touchdowns.
No. 19 Arizona State started their 2014 season off right with an easy 45-14 victory over Weber State. Quarterback Taylor Kelly picked up right where he left off from last season and threw for 238 yards and a touchdown before being pulled in the third quarter.
The Sun Devils took a 31-0 halftime lead, and the Wildcats eventually scored a touchdown in the third quarter to trim the lead to 38-7 on a touchdown pass from Billy Green.
The Wildcats also managed to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 60-yard run by running back Zach Smith.
Running back D.J. Foster ran over the Wildcats’ defense with 147 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Kalen Ballage added another 36 yards and a touchdown.
Wide receiver Jaelen Strong continued to be Kelly’s top weapon as he finished with 10 receptions and 146 yards. Gary Chambers and Ellis Jefferson each caught a touchdown pass.
For the Wildcats, Green was held to 156 yards on 14-of-29 passing although he threw a touchdown pass in the third quarter. Smith led the Wildcats in rushing with 128 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Shaydon Kehano led the team in receiving with six catches, 99 yards and a touchdown.
