Former England quick Andrew Flintoff has voiced concerns over Kevin Pietersen’s omission from the England World Cup squad after the the 34-year-old put in yet another stellar performance for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League on Monday.
Pietersen hit his second half-century of the tournament as the Stars chased down the Sydney Sixers’ total of 150.
The Stars’ second win keeps them in touch for a semi-finals spot thanks in part to Pietersen who smashed a 37-ball 50.
It left Flintoff to ponder why exactly his former teammate was not included in the England side for the World Cup, which begins in February.
“There will be people around the world today watching and thinking: ‘He doesn’t even play for England – why oh why?'”, Flintoff told Sky Sports.
England selectors have refused to pick Pietersen since his controversial sacking 11 months ago.
All competing World Cup nations will confirm their final 15-man squads on Tuesday.
