2. Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin
The NCAA’s leading rusher in 2014, Melvin Gordon was the best RB in the country and finished 2nd in the Heisman Trophy voting. He finished his season at Wisconsin with 2,587 rushing yards – second only in NCAA history to Barry Sanders’ 2,628 yards in 1988 – thanks to his exceptional combination of speed (4.52 40-time) and his unique ability to create a hole to run through where one seemingly doesn’t exist. Gordon is the definition of a bellcow RB who teams can give the ball to 25-30 times per game and wear defenses down.
Historically speaking the Wisconsin RBs have failed to reach anything close to the high levels of production they achieved in college. RBs Montee Ball and Ron Dayne are the most famous examples of college studs who have been relative afterthoughts in the NFL. But Melvin Gordon could be the man who breaks the spell of Wisconsin backs struggling at the next level.
Projection: Late 1st-round
