1. Maxx Williams, Minnesota
Despite the lack of promising tight ends in this class, Williams has the potential to become a Pro Bowl tight end after showing a perfect mix of receiving and blocking ability in his sophomore season at Minnesota. Williams played in a run-first offense, but he finished with 569 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Most notably, he caught three touchdowns against Iowa. He also ran a 4.58 40 at the Combine, showing his athleticism that makes him an all-around weapon.
While it may be a stretch to compare Williams to tight ends like Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham, he figures to be a contender to be selected in the first round. The tight end-needy Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints may find it difficult to pass on him, and he would undoubtedly blossom into a premier tight end with someone like Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees throwing to him.
Projection: Late 1st round-early 2nd round
