Winner: Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons scored big in the first round as they drafted defensive end/outside linebacker Vic Beasley, who was a sack machine at Clemson. This marks a great start to head coach Dan Quinn’s effort to turn the defense around. The Falcons followed up by drafting running back Tevin Coleman in the third round. Coleman rushed for over 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns, which would have gained Heisman recognition if Indiana had a better team.
Cornerback Jalen Collins was also taken in the second round, and he will be a steal as well if he can put his past drug test failures behind him. Wide receiver Justin Hardy was taken in the fourth round and should be able to replace Harry Douglas as the Falcons’ slot receiver. The Falcons’ excellent draft makes it even more difficult to predict the next NFC South champion.
