Benfica ace Nicolas Gaitan appears ready to sign a deal at Old Trafford. Will Ed Woodward get the deal done before the season starts?
Man United had supposedly reached an agreement to sign Benfica attacker Nicolas Gaitan, and the Argentinian star is excited about the chance.
According to the Metro, the 27-year-old Gaitan is waiting with baited breathe for the deal to be finalized with reports from Portugal stating he’s ready to join Louis van Gaal and Ed Woodward at Old Trafford. If completed the deal would mark the third midfield pickup of the season for the Red Devils and their sixth overall.
A top attacking midfielder and winger in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, Gaitan has spent the last five seasons with Benfica, winning back-to-back league titles with the club and Taca da Liga titles in four of his five years. His buyout clause with the Portuguese outfit is estimated at €35 million.
One of the key holdups in the deal, however, is likely the stalled sale of Man United flop Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain, which if completed would inject between £25-45 million into Ed Woodward’s spending account.
