Despite a short season, Julian Draxler still inspires memories of his incredible 2012-13 season. Did Arsenal whiff big-time on this move?
The Gunners appear to have missed out on a golden opportunity to land one of Bundesliga’s best wingers with Schalke 04’s Julian Draxler on the verge of signing with Serie A.
According to talkSPORT, Draxler’s agent has met with Serie A champion Juventus to discuss a transfer and terms of a contract. TalkSPORT reported that Draxler would earn a salary of approximately £4 million per season (reportedly double what he’s currently making) and the transfer would cost an estimated £25 million to finish the deal with Schalke 04.
Arsenal were linked to Draxler with manager Arsene Wenger believed to admire the 21-year-old German star’s ability.
Draxler made his senior debut with Schalke 04 in 2010 and has been a star winger for the club when healthy. He had a breakout year during the 2012-13 season and set a career high with 10 league goals and 13 total goals. Draxler was also a member of the German national team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
