Yankees shortstop won’t return until next season.
Already out the MLB playoffs, New York Yankees have begun their preparations for the 2013 season. Shortstop Derek Jeter is to undergo surgery this Saturday on his broken left ankle, which will put him out of action for at least the next four months.
This means Jeter will likely miss the majority of the Yankees’ pre-season preparations, leaving him with some work to do to get up to speed.
The Yankee captain fractured his ankle in the 12th inning of a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers last Saturday in the opening game of the best-of-seven American League Championship Series.
Jeter moved to his left to grab a ground ball hit by Detroit’s Jhonny Peralta and he fell to the ground as he gloved the ball, then grimaced as he flipped it to a teammate.
