What will happen to Yann M’Vila?
Five French under-21 players who sneaked out for a night on the town while on international duty – including Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal target Yann M’Vila – will have to answer before a disciplinary hearing, announced the French Football Federation (FFF).
Rennes players M’vila and Chris Mavinga, who have been suspended by their club until further notice, have been summoned to appear on November 8, along with Toulouse striker Wissam Ben Yedder, Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann and AC Milan’s Mbaye Niang.
“They made a mistake and the behaviour of certain players is really incompatible with this very high level of football,” said FFF president Noel Le Graet.
M’Vila and Mavinga could also be barred from first team duty until the end of the season, their club coach Frederic Antonetti has warned – and it is very much an open secret that both are up for sale – and at a cut price.
The club ordered the pair to train with the youth squad when they reported back at the weekend and Antonetti said he was “very upset” by their behaviour.
“There’s no limit on how long, quite honestly, it could go on until May 30. I haven’t really taken it in yet, it’s going to take some time. I’m the one who’s most hurt by this, I had faith in the players.”
The five spent a night out between two key under-21 European championship qualifiers, defying team orders and leaving the French under-21s’ base in the northern city of Le Havre to go to a Paris nightspot.
The team had beaten Norway 1-0 the previous evening in a Euro 2013 play-off but suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Scandinavians 5-3 three days later. France coach Erick Mombaerts was sacked after the loss.
Will Yann M’Vila get his career back on track at a different club in January?
