Manchester United are confident of beating the noisy neighbours Man City to the signature of Malaga playmaker Isco, reports the Daily Star.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly sees the young Spaniard, 20, as the perfect replacement for veteran Paul Scholes, who is expected to retire for the second time at the end of this season.
Isco has been on dazzling form this term, helping Malaga to a strong start in La Liga and starring as the Spaniards won their opening three Champions League group games in their debut year in the competition.
The classy pass-master scored twice against Zenit St Petersburg in Malaga’s latest victory, with scouts from the Manchester duo, as well as Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool eagerly watching on.
Isco currently has a release clause of just £17.5m and Malaga have admitted they will powerless to prevent the Spain under-21 international from leaving the club if it is met in January.
Reports have suggested that the youngster is ready to sign a new deal at La Rosaleda, increasing his buy-out clause to closer to the £32m mark, however.
