Chelsea could miss out on rumoured transfer target Paulinho, after his club Corinthians said that they had blocked the sale.
Indeed, Paulinho has instead been offered improved terms to stay with his Brazilian club, with Corinthians president Mario Gobbi Filho stating a move was impossible.
“We have renewed his contract and we have adjusted it,” Filho told Calcio Mercato News.
“Now it is at a level appropriate for Paulinho and the market. We have no intention to sell him, it is out of the question.
“We have a cycle that lasts until July and we renewed his contract to keep him, not to sell him. We do not want to transfer any player in January.”
Paulinho is a tough tackling central midfielder with a great aerial presence despite his 5’11” frame.
He could offer a great option behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata.
However, despite having learned his trade in Brazil, at 24 he now looks unlikely to leave for Europe any time soon.
