Arsenal are set to take advantage of Malaga’s precarious financial situation with another swoop for one of their players at a bargain price.
The Gunners took Santi Cazorla to Emirates Stadium for around €15m (approximately£12.5m) in the summer – a price that Malaga’s manager Manuel Pellegrini later grumbled was an “unacceptable gift.”
“The owners chose the wrong model in selling the club’s best players,” Pellegrini told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Selling Cazorla for €15 million was a gift and unacceptable. He played a vital role in helping us to the Champions League.”
However, Malaga’s problems with money have reared their ugly head again, with a meeting held to discuss unpaid wages to Pellegrini and his players.
Arsenal have had well documented troubles at left back this season, and it would appear Arsene Wenger has his eye on Spain international Nacho Monreal to offer assistance in that position.
As impressive as Kieran Gibbs has been when selected, he continues to be plagued by injury – which then leaves Andre Santos as the next option.
Santos has often appeared unfit and defensively lax, and having Monreal at the Emirates Stadium would bring Arsenal real competition in the left back position.
