Liverpool could be set to make a stunning bid for Wigan Athletic forward Franco di Santo, who looks likely to leave the DW Stadium.
Di Santo was recently called up to the Argentina squad in place of Carlos Tevez, and has been a good figurehead for the Latics attack.
Three goals in seven games already this season indicate the progress Di Santo has made, and a strong and tall forward with decent pace is something Liverpool are lacking under Brendan Rodgers.
Though Andy Carroll offers strength and height, his lack of mobility counts against him in Rodgers’ ideal of Liverpool’s playing style.
Franco Di Santo is a much more willing runner, who participates well in build up play and can even time late runs into the box.
A fine player with his back to goal, Di Santo tends to win a lot of free kicks just outside the box – which would of course let Luis Suarez shoot on goal.
With the Argentine holding the ball up and Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling running past on either side, could Liverpool unlock the secret to a potent attack?
Di Santo is out of contract in the summer so a January transfer would likely be at a bargain price.
