Liverpool are reportedly watching the progress of Chelsea youngster Josh McEachran – currently on loan at Middlesbrough – with a summer deal on the cards should he continue to do well.
A deal for the 19 year-old would be one of the surprises of the transfer window, but Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is well known to be a fan of the youngster.
He took McEachran on loan to Swansea City when manager at the Liberty Stadium last season, and waxed lyrical about the move.
“Josh will fit in very easily here,” smiled Rodgers.
“It’s important players fit in terms of talent and personality, and he fits both.
“He’s a wonderful technician with the ball, with great vision. He is an immense talent, which he will demonstrate over the next number of years.
“He is a good kid with a good career in front of him, and I think the supporters will really enjoy watching him.
“His talent is all there to see, it’s pure natural ability.”
McEachran didn’t receive a great deal of playing time at Swansea – “He admitted he was behind with his conditioning,” said Rodgers – but now he has regular first team footbal under his belt he could finally go on to reach the potential he first displayed in the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea at the age of just 17.
McEachran would work well in tandem with the likes of Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen and Steven Gerrard, and would likely be a long term replacement for the on-loan Nuri Sahin.
It is understood that the preference of the Turkey international is to return to Real Madrid to make another attempt to revive his career there.
