After scoring 22 goals last season, the price tag on Antoine Griezmann has skyrocketed.
If Chelsea hope to secure Atletico Madrid’s big-time scoring threat Antoine Griezmann before the transfer window closes, they’ll need to offer up a LOT more cash to get him.
According to AS, the La Liga giants have given their star striker a new contract with an increased Griezmann’s salary and upped the price of his release clause (now estimated at £46.1 million) as well. The contract keeps Griezmann in Vicente Calderon Stadium until 2020.
The Express reported that Chelsea were originally considering a bid of £28 million for the 24-year-old French striker with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich also keeping a close eye on developments.
Last season Griezmann recorded a career-high 22 league goals, earning La Liga Player of the Month honors in January 2015 and La Liga Team of the Season honors for the 2014-15 season.
Antoine Griezmann has 18 caps for France and 5 goals with his most recent one coming against Albania last November.
