It is no longer a question of if, but when Jets head coach Rex Ryan will be fired.

It started with a less than impressive victory over the hapless Oakland Raiders, was followed up by a blown 18-point lead and Timeoutgate against the Packers, then two embarrassing home losses to the Bears on Monday Night and then the Lions the following Sunday. But after being shutout 31-0 on Sunday it is almost a given that heads will roll in the New York Jets locker room come January, or even December if the Jets continue to embarrass themselves on the field. Much of the blame for the lack of talent deserves to fall on GM John Idzik, who curiously decided not to spend money on more than a handful of average to above-average players in free agency despite the plethora of options available and the 2nd most cap space in the league.
But ultimately head coach Rex Ryan will lose his job – the one who has been required to get a squad of 2nd-, 3rd- and sometimes 4th-string quality players to start every week at receiver and in the secondary. He certainly has more than his fair share of responsibility for the way the Jets have been playing, but in the end it looks like the GM is just going to throw his head coach under the bus. Rex Ryan deserves better than that.
Here are the biggest losers in the NFL from Week 5:
New York Jets – Even the offensively-anemic Jaguars can score at least once in a game. What does that say about this Jet offense?
Tennessee Titans – Ironically, the team that gave up the biggest comeback in NFL history back in the 1990s just allowed the biggest comeback by a road team in NFL history.
Arizona Cardinals – They still have the best record in the division, but the concussion to QB Drew Stanton means they may be forced to turn to the third string rookie QB Logan Thomas for at least a game.
Jacksonville Jaguars – There aren’t too many winnable games on their schedule. They let the one against Pittsburgh slip away and still remain winless.
Detroit Lions – This team has not successfully kicked a FG beyond 30 yards all season. It has only been 5 weeks and the team is already shopping for their 3rd starting Kicker.
