Florida State and Notre Dame have a lot in common: Two currently undefeated teams with talented, but somewhat controversial QBs, great defense that can resist giving opponents momentum off turnovers, and most of all, coaches who have been to the National Championship game.
QBs Jameis Winston and Everett Golson are two of the most talented QBs in college football and may be hosting a shootout at Florida State today. The winner will likely remain a frontrunner for a spot in the college football playoffs, as neither plays a truly daunting game the rest of the season. But the loser will likely be on the outside looking in, forced to settle for an At-Large Bowl game instead of a shot at a national championship.
Here are the 5 teams with the most to prove in Week 8 of college football:
Florida State – With only two wins over teams that are currently ranked – neither of whom are even in the top 10, the Seminoles have the look of a paper tiger. A win over the Fighting Irish could put them back in the #1 overall ranking
Notre Dame – Much like Florida State, the Fighting Irish have wins over unconvincing teams (1 win over now-#14 Stanford). But if the Fighting Irish are for real, QB Everett Golson will need to play the best game of his college career.
Oklahoma – Two straight unconvincing performances, first in a loss to TCU and then in a sloppy win over Texas, have the former #4 Sooners looking vulnerable. A win over Kansas State would put the Sooners safely in 3rd place in the Big XII before a bye week.
Alabama – Right now the Crimson Tide looks vulnerable. Only a convincing win over the Aggies can give them the spark they need to overcome the Mississippi State Bulldogs when they play next month.
Mississippi (Ole Miss) – The Rebels have beaten the best, now they just have to beat the rest and avoid the upset against Tennessee.
