2) Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)
Surely one of the best defenders in the world at the moment, Diego Godin has been an absolute rock for Atletico Madrid this season on their way to glory in La Liga. The Uruguayan is a superb tackler and reader of the game, and also has the handy knack of getting forward to score important goals. As well as his recent match-winner in a crucial World Cup game against Italy, Godin netted the equaliser against Barcelona that sealed the title for Diego Simeone’s side at the Nou Camp, and shortly afterwards opened the scoring with what looked like being the winner for Atletico in the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Chelsea have shown an interest in him in the past, and could look to him now if they remain intent on signing a new player in that part of the pitch.
