Arsenal received a big boost in their efforts to sign Napoli star striker Gonzalo Higuain.
According to the Express, Higuain has told Napoli club president Aurelio De Laurentiis that he wants out of Serie A. While indications are that Napoli would be willing to put the 27-year-old Argentian up for sale, the asking price is reportedly in the area of £67 million.
Earlier it was reported that Arsenal had prepared a bid of £42.7 million for Higuain. Notably, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was believed to be close to signing Higuain before the striker left Real Madrid in 2013.
Higuain has scored 35 league goals and 53 total goals for Napoli in two years wit the club. In his prior seven-year stint with Real Madrid, Higuain scored 107 times in 190 league appearances for the La Liga outfit. Higuain has recorded double-digit league goals in each of his last seven seasons and at least 24 total goals in five of them.
