Green Bay Packers expected to make Aaron Rodgers their highest paid player.
Aaron Rodgers is due a pay day.
Having won the Superbowl in 2010, and developing into arguably the best Quarterback in the league over the last three seasons, he has earned a mammoth increase on his current deal.
When Joe Flacco received his $120.6m deal, the immediate thought for many fans was that if Flacco was worth such a sum, Aaron Rodgers would be worth considerably more.
Rodgers leads the league in touchdowns, fewest interceptions and completion rating. He elevates his team to a different level when he is on the field, and makes the entire franchise a perennial Super Bowl contender when he is on the field.
Which is why the team are ready to do business with their star a year early, according to a report on NFL.com.
What that price could be is anyone’s guess, but if it approaches anywhere near $130m, it would not only make the 29 year old the highest paid player now, but also for the foreseeable future, as no team will be able to beat that for quite some time.
Is a Quarterback worth that kind of money? Perhaps not. Is a Quarterback worth that kind of money when he can help his franchise compete for the next four Super Bowls during the contract? Absolutely.
When a team wants to build a team around their QB, they need to make sure he stays, and if the sorts of figures discussed are true, there is little danger of that player leaving.
Rodgers looks set to become a Packer for life, but that is something that ‘Cheesehead’ fans will only fully believe once he signs the new deal.
