Manchester United skipper a shock target for AC Milan.
AC Milan are planning to sign Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic this summer, report the Metro.
The Red Devils skipper has played just eighteen times out of a possible 44 for the club in the current campaign, and Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans appear to have become Sir Alex Ferguson’s first choice central defensive partnership.
This is despite Ferdinand having to manage the chronic back issues that have troubled him throughout much of his career with a specific daily training programme, and initial fears that Evans was not cut out for the highest level proving to be wide of the mark.
Though of course Vidic has struggled with a knee complaint this season, it is Evans’ graduation from capable backup to world class centre back that has seen the former Serbia international usurped as the first name on the team sheet.
With England internationals Phil Jones and Chris Smalling more than capable backups – not to mention promising youth product Scott Wootton waiting in the wings – perhaps the time has come for Vidic to move on from Old Trafford.
The 31 year-old’s heyday came alongside Ferdinand in 2008-2009 – the year in which Manchester United last won the UEFA Champions League – and perhaps the famous Milan lab can get the most out of Nemanja Vidic in the latter years of his career.
