AC Milan will hope to continue their bright start to the season when they face defending champions Juventus in front of a sold out San Siro on Saturday night.
The Rossoneri have won both of their opening games under Pippo Inzaghi, but ultimately the first-year Coach will hope to see more defensive organisation and solidity from his players after their thrilling 5-4 win over Parma last weekend.
While Inzaghi was complimentary of his team’s play offensively, he will need to see drastic improvement all-round against Juventus as they have both the individual and collective quality to expose their weaknesses.
Jeremy Menez will likely continue in his ‘false nine’ role having impressed thus far, scoring three goals in two games as he not only constructs play from a deeper position, but is also able to attack defenders directly with his pace and skill.
Milan will be without the injured Riccardo Montolivo, Riccardo Saponara, Alex and Diego Lopez, but Stephan El Shaarawy is expected to return while Fernando Torres will likely start on the bench.
Nevertheless, owner Silvio Berlusconi has labelled this game a “fundamental test” of both Inzaghi and Milan, as despite impressing so far, they will gain significant conviction in their rebuilding project with a win over a direct rival such as Juve.
Meanwhile, the Bianconeri will be buoyed by their win in Europe in mid-week, with Carlos Tevez scoring twice to secure all three points against Malmo.
The Argentinian has been singled out by Inzaghi as the danger man on Saturday, with Nigel De Jong expected to play a crucial role in limiting his influence on the game.
Giorgio Chiellini returns from suspension while Arturo Vidal is hopeful of recovering from injury in time to play, but Andrea Pirlo misses out against his former club.
Juventus won the corresponding fixture 2-0 last season, but it promises to be a thrilling contest this time round with both teams in great form to start the season.
