The Reds will head to the Republic of Indonesia in September for the pre-season tournament.
Adelaide United have confirmed they will travel to the Republic of Indonesia in September to compete in the Menpora Cup.
The Reds were invited to take part in the tournament by Football Association of Indonesia and the Indonesian Government and were placed in in Group A alongside popular local club Persib Bandung, Sriwijaya FC and Indonesian U-23 National Team.
The meeting with Persib will also bring them face-to-face with former striker Sergio van Dijk, although pleasantries are likely to be left in the dressing room as Josep Gombau’s side plan to use the trip to continue their build-up to the A-League 2013/14 Season, which begins in October.
“This tournament provides the perfect preparation for the pre season with at least three quality games guaranteed plus a fourth if we’re good enough,” General Manager of Football Operations Michael Petrillo told Football Australia.
“It will be beneficial in terms of team bonding, establishing Josep’s playing style and for the coaches to see where the squad is at in its preparation for the coming season.”
“To be able to have this opportunity to play pre-season games in front of what we expect to be big crowds and a great atmosphere is a bonus and we’re very much looking forward to it.”
The Menpora Cup kicks-off an Opening Ceremony on October 12 with Adelaide playing in the opening match against Indonesian U-23 National Team.
