Fiorentina hit out at Rossoneri after their initial bid for the Serbian international.
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has defended the club’s conduct in their bid to sign Adem Ljajic from Fiorentina.
The Viola released an official statement on their website on Sunday, following Milan’s initial €8m bid for the 21-year-old.
“We consider Milan’s offer to be unacceptable, certainly late and absolutely inopportune,” it read.
Ljajic is currently in negotiations with Fiorentina over a possible contract extension, although owner Andrea Della Valle has warned the talented youngster that he could be put on the market if he doesn’t accept the club’s offer.
Coach Vincenzo Montella also waded in on the matter over the weekend, suggesting that if Ljajic doesn’t “remain calm” amid speculation over his future, he will have a problem in playing him.
However, Galliani has moved to quash talk of any wrong-doing by Milan by stating that they have merely stuck to the rules in their pursuit of Ljajic.
“All we have done is made an offer during the transfer window,” Galliani said as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We haven’t done anything wrong.”
“At this moment in time, the conditions are not in place to complete the deal,” he added.
Fiorentina are set to meet with Ljajic’s representatives again this week in order to establish whether or not a deal can be struck, with the club keen on avoiding losing him for nothing in twelve months time.
It is believed that relations between the clubs had remained amicable up until the weekend, although there is history following the free transfer of Riccardo Montolivo last summer.
It remains to be seen whether Ljajic will dismiss all the speculation by agreeing on new terms with Fiorentina, as Galliani appeared in a pessimistic mood when quizzed on the matter.
