The NFL announced its three players of the week in the AFC for Week 6 of the 2014 NFL season.
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, Tennessee Titans DT Jurrell Casey was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week, and Indianapolis Colts Punter Pat McAfee was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Flacco won the award after he threw five TDs in an NFL record 16 minutes and 3 seconds of what wound up as a 48-17 Ravens rout of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Flacco might have set a new NFL record by throwing eight (or more!) touchdowns but the Ravens pulled back on the reins once it was clear the Bucs weren’t competitive. Flacco finished the day 21-of-29 for 306 yards with the aforementioned 5 TDs.
Casey was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week, after a standout game against the Jaguars last week. He had 2.0 sacks and a pressure, along with two tackles for loss among his eight tackles on the day.
McAfee is a multi-talented special teamer for the Colts who punts, kicks off, and holds for the placekicker. He won by perfectly executing an onside kick that he both initiated and recovered. He also placed three of his four punts inside the 20 during the Thursday night win at Houston.
