It’s the final match of the 2014 Asia Cup for these two sides as Afghanistan and India end very differing tournaments in terms of success.
The Afghan side came into the competition as the favourites to finish bottom of the table with the least cricketing experience, yet secured a shock victory over hosts Bangladesh.
As for the Indians, defeats to Sri Lanka and fierce rivals Pakistan has seen their chances of reaching the final fall away and pride is all they have to play for now.
The nation have won the Asia Cup a record five times and their form has been both disappointing and worrying, as they’ve struggled to cope without captain MS Dhoni.
Virat Kohli has been filling in as skipper but has not been able to fill the large void left by Dhoni and their batsmen will need to be sharp against a promising bowling attack.
For Afghanistan Dawlat and Shapoor Zardan have shown great pace, whilst spinners Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shenwari and Hamza Hotak have also looked good.
As for the India team, although batsmen Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu and Kohli have all shown glimpses of form, it hasn’t been consistent enough.
Dhoni has also been missed behind the stumps as Dinesh Karthik has not filled in well and Amit Mishra should get a chance ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin.
