Bennell cites future success as being a key factor in re-signing with the club.
Harley Bennell has re-signed with AFL club Gold Coast Suns for three years, the club announced on Friday.
The lure of future success was a key factor in the 22-year-old’s decision to sign on until 2017, and comes as a boost before his sides clash with West Coast in Perth on Saturday.
“We are a really tight group, we have been through the hard times together, our journey has been unique and we are as determined as ever to share that success that every player wants,” Bennell said.
“We think we have made up significant ground over the last couple of years but we know that if we are to achieve the success that we all want in the future, that the hard work has only just begun.” Bennell said.
Gold Coast Suns Strategy and List Manager, Scott Clayton, said that the club was very happy to retain Bennell.
“Harley is an extremely important player for us and we are really pleased to be in a position to confirm he has agreed to terms for a further three seasons,” he said.
“We believe Harley has the ability to be one of the competition’s elite players and we take great confidence out of his commitment and belief in the club’s future direction.”
Bennell has played 55 games with the Suns since making his debut in the club’s inaugural match against Carlton in 2011.
