The 2015 AFL Grand Final will be played on October 3, while the league has steered clear of Good Friday football due to the Cricket World Cup.
After a meeting with the club CEOs on Thursday, the AFL confirmed the Grand Final will be played on Saturday, October 3.
It will mean a 27-week season starting on April 2 with one bye for each team.
The fixture will start later than usual due to the Cricket World Cup final being played at the MCG on March 29, with Good Friday falling a week later on April 3.
It is understood the AFL preferred a Carlton-Richmond season opener on the Thursday rather than football being played on Good Friday.
The AFL commission ticked off Good Friday football after the departure of former AFL boss Andrew Demetriou – a strong opponent of Good Friday football.
It has been reported that the controversial fixture will be on the agenda for the 2016 season.
