Chelsea have been trying to bolster their central defensive options all summer and they are finally on the verge of singing an experienced player with the ability to replace John Terry.
Club captain Terry was one of Chelsea’s star men last season, but he has looked awkward and off the pace so far this season.
The 34-year-old, who is in the final 12 months of his current contract, was subbed off at half-time in Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City and then shown a red card as the Blues sneaked a 3-2 win at West Bromwich Albion.

Everton’s John Stones was top of Jose Mourinho’s wish-list, but, with the Toffees demanding £40m, the Special One appears to have switched focus to FC Nantes star Papy Djilobodji.
The 26-year-old Senegal international is on close to completing a medical with Chelsea, according to L’Equipe, who claim he has been looking to join a big club for several months.
Djilobodji is much faster than Terry. In fact, the 6ft 4in rock would be one of the quickest centre-backs in the Premier League.
The Guardian report that Chelsea will pay Nantes a £2.7m transfer fee for Djilobodji.
