A superstar in Premeira Liga, Nicolas Gaitan has caught the eye of Louis van Gaal. Could Gaitan be a difference maker for Man United?
Man United are on the verge of sealing a deal for Benfica star midfielder Nicolas Gaitan.
According to the Metro, Gaitan’s agent Cassiano Pereira confirmed the interest of Man United in his 27-year-old Argentinian client, and said that a cash-plus-player swap for his client is in the works. Pereira also represents Man United’s defender Rafael and indicated that the 25-year-old could be included in the final deal.
“It’s true,” Pereira said. “Benfica and Man United are in negotiations over Gaitan – and one offer includes Rafael to join Benfica.”
Gaitan was signed by the Portuguese league in 2010 for €8.4 million after an impressive run with Boca Juniors in Argentina. Gaitan won Portugese League Breakthrough Player of the Year honors in 2011 after scoring a career-high 9 goals and winning the Taca de Liga title.
Last November Gaitan signed a contract extension with Benfica worth €35 million. The club would go on to win the Premeira Liga title for the second year in a row.
