Spurs were always looking like wrapping up the transfer quickly, but de Boer’s quotes would suggest that a deal has already been done.
Tottenham Hotspur fans can expect to welcome the signing of Ajax’s Christian Eriksen as soon as Thursday, if manager Frank de Boer’s quotes are anything to go by.
de Boer told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaph, “His departure is a huge loss, because Chris [Eriksen] is terribly important.
“We always have and always will get along. He is an ideal footballer and professional, he is ideal for any coach.”
de Boer’s tone seems to imply that Eriksen has already left for White Hart Lane. When asked if he thinks Eriksen will succeed in the Premier League, he said “it would surprise me if that were not so”.
Tottenham were believed to have lodged an opening bid in the region of £8m for the 21-year-old, whilst Ajax are holding out for a fee closer to £12m.
Ajax Director of Football and former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars revealed Spurs’ interest in the player on Wednesday. Once Eriksen joins, combined with the arrival of Eric Lamela on Wednesday, Spurs should finally be ready to let Gareth Bale move to Real Madrid and put an end to the longest running transfer saga of the summer.
