Albirex remain four points ahead of third-placed Tanjong after stalemate.
Albirex Niigata retained second place in the S.League after a goalless draw with third-placed Tanjong Pagar United on Wednesday, Fox Sports Asia report.
The White Swans remain four points ahead of their rivals and remain on the coattails of leaders Tampines Rovers, although it appears this stalemate has brought to an end their hopes of nicking top-spot as the season enters its final stages.
With a three point advantage and two game in hand The Stags are in a commanding position to to retain their title after Albirex’s turned in a tame performance in front of goal to leave the Queenstown Stadium with a share of the spoils.
Clear cut chances were few and far between during the match with the usually deadly Kazuki Sakamoto missing the chance to score his 10th of the season for the away side by heading over in the 14th minute after Kento Fukuda diverted Shingo Suzuki’s corner into his path.
Tanjong went close to scoring through John Wilkinson and Monsef Zerka either side of half-time before Aurelien Herisson kept out Sakamoto’s firm drive at the other end.
Wilkinson then curled a free kick narrowly wide for the hosts before Hafiz Nor’s stinging drive in the dying embers produced a stunning block from Albirex goalkeeper Masahiro Ishikawa to preserve his clean sheet.
