Despite the fact Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker formed a superb central defensive partnership last term, cover is still needed.
This is because with captain Thomas Vermaelen is keen for a move away in order to achieve more first team football, so beyond Koscielny and Mertesacker things will look bleak.
Lovren has made it clear he would like to leave St Mary’s this summer, although currently Brendan Rodgers appears to be the favourite to secure the Croatia international.
