Mitrovic was booked within 10 seconds of coming off the bench for a wild challenge, but Wijnaldum appears to be a more reliable purchase and put Newcastle ahead with a superb header.
Southampton (v Newcastle)
Maarten Stekelenburg – 5/10
Cedric Soares – 6/10
Cuco Martina – 5/10
Stekelenburg misjudged the cross which allowed Papiss Cisse the easiest of equalisers in the 2-2 draw at St James’ Park. Soares was a bit hot-headed at right-back and his half-time replacement Martina was no more convincing. On this evidence, Nathaniel Clyne will be missed.
