Manchester United and Tottenham entered into negotiations on transfer deadline day for a swap deal involving Andros Townsend and Nani, but the North London club pulled out of a potential deal. reports the Mirror.
According to the paper, David Moyes offered his 27-year-old Portuguese flyer in exchange for Spurs’ young English one, and although a move was discussed, Tottenham eventually decided they’d rather keep Townsend.
Nani, despite signing a new contract at United last summer, is massively out of favour under Moyes, and it was expected that he’d move on this January. With new signing Juan Mata now vying for a start, and wonderkid Adnan Januzaj now above him in the pecking order, it was strongly rumoured that Nani would leave for more first-team football.
Townsend burst onto the international scene with England at the start of this season, but injuries have stopped him from truly taking it to the next level with Spurs. He’s now fit and healthy once more though, and will hope to force himself into Tim Sherwood’s plans now the club has shown their loyalty to him.
