Head coach wants a defensive minded player in his engine room.
Melbourne Heart head coach John Aloisi says the club are pushing ahead in their efforts to sign a defensive midfielder.
After releasing veteran duo Fred and Matt Thompson and out-of-contract star Richard Garcia tipped to leave AAMI Park this summer, Aloisi is wants to improve the numbers in his squad before the A-League season begins.
The former Australia striker feels he needs a player capable of playing alongside Jonatan Germano, Iain Ramsey and new arrival Massimo Murdocca and revealed a breakthrough is imminent.
“We’ve got two more foreign spots to fill and if the right one comes along … we think we’re close to getting a defensive midfielder who can control our game,” Goal.com report him as saying to Radio Sport National on Wednesday.
“I think that’s important for us, to have someone in the midfield who can link up between the defence and the strikers.
“We’re looking at someone that is experienced and who is great on the ball, so that we can dictate to the opposition how we want to play.
Aloisi has added seven new faces to the Heart squad this summer, including Murdocca, with Socceroos legend Harry Kewell recently joining from Qatar side A-Gharafa.
