9. Man City
Man City splashed the cash, finishing as the Premier League’s second biggest spenders behind Spurs, but arguably failed to significantly improve the squad that started last season. Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic are both quality additions, but it remains to be seen if the duo are an upgrade on the departed Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez, while Fernandinho is better than Gareth Barry but was overpriced at £30m.
Jesus Navas is one to watch, however, and new boss Manuel Pellegrini will be please to have offloaded some of the club’s handsomely paid deadwood (Wayne Bridge, we’re looking at you).
