Man United kicked off life after Fergy with a frustrating summer in the transfer market, leaving boss David Moyes and chief executive Ed Woodward red faced. Moyes bleated about possible signings, ranging from Cesc Fabregas to Leighton Baines, throughout the window but eventually had to make do with a hastily-finalised deadline day deal for Marouane Fellaini – a fine player but arguably not worth the £27.5m United paid. So much for ‘making a statement’…
The Red Devils did, however, keep hold of Chelsea target Wayne Rooney.
