Alvaro Negredo has been urged to quit Manchester City and join Atletico Madrid, by the Spanish club’s new goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya.
ITV news reported on the 30-year-old’s attempts to reach out to the City striker, who scored 23 goals in 48 games during his debut season in England.
The 28-year-old forward, who missed out on a place in the Spanish World Cup squad, saw his form dip during the second-half of last season, following his £16.4m move from Sevilla.
Reports emerged that Negredo was suffering from homesickness, and was not enjoying his time in England.
With Negredo favouring a move back to Spain, the Champions League runners-up have pounced, eager to find a suitable replacement for Chelsea-bound forward Diego Costa.
Now Moya, who moves to the Vicente Calderon from Getafe to replace another Chelsea player – Thibaut Courtois – has revealed his desire to play alongside the man known as: “The Beast”.
When quizzed on which of Madrid’s targets – Mario Mandzukic, Romelu Lukaku, Jackson Martinez and Negredo – he would most like the club to sign, it was the latter who got the nod.
“On a personal level, among all of them, I can say that he is my preferred choice, the ideal one, especially because I know him. He’s Spanish and I like him a lot,” he said.
“But if we’re talking about Mandzukic, Jackson or Lukaku, they are also among the top 20 strikers in the world.”
