Brook vs Khan 2015: British rivals could be set for bout next year.
Amir Khan is reportedly set to announce that he will face former world champion Devon Alexander in Las Vegas on December 13.
The identity of Khan’s next opponent has been the source of great speculation in recent months, with Robert Guerrero also thought to be in contention. However, it is widely expected that Alexander will be the man in the ring later this year.
As expected, the Bolton-born fighter is still chasing a bout with Floyd Mayweather next year, and it is assumed that he believes a win over another American will put him in a stronger position to set up the clash with ‘Money’.
However, there is also the possibility of a British showdown with Kell Brook after promoter Eddie Hearn previously urged Khan to stop “prostituting” himself in his chase of Mayweather.
Hearn believes that a domestic dust-up between the pair would be worthy of a date at Wembley, but it remains to be seen whether or not Khan will take that fight as he continues his desperate search for a meeting with Mayweather.
Meanwhile, Alexander had been scheduled to fight Brook twice last year, but injuries to both fighters forced the bout to be cancelled and he went on to lose on points to Shawn Porter.
Nevertheless, the southpaw returned with a points win over Jesus Soto Karass in June and he will now also be eager to put himself in the mix with the top fighters in a talented division in 2015.
