Khan is scheduled to fight Chris Algieri in Brooklyn on May 29, while there is the small matter of Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on May 2 which will likely make the picture in the welterweight division a lot clearer.
While the pair have no rematch clause in their current agreement, Mayweather has recently suggested that his last fight will be in September as it concludes his deal with CBS and Showtime.
Having spent years chasing the unbeaten superstar, it appears as though Khan is switching his tactics and is now targeting a clash with his former stable partner in Pac-Man.
It isn’t yet clear what the Filipino will do after May 2 as he continues to be involved in politics, but Khan has opened the door to a mega-fight in Abu Dhabi last this year.
“I want this fight. I would love to box Manny. We’ve been looking at an event in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is only a short drive away. It’s a dream of mine to fight in that part of the world,” Khan said, according to Sky Sports.
Khan conceded that he has wasted a lot of time pursuing Mayweather, and it appears as though he is keen to get on with his career if he is unable to face either the American of Pacquiao before the pair call time on their illustrious careers in the sport.
It remains to be seen whether the Bolton-born fighter gets his opportunity before it is too late, while he has sided with Mayweather to win the biggest fight in boxing history as he believes ‘Money’ will cope with the initial barrage from his rival and then pick Pacquiao off to win comfortably.
