Former International predicts Group stage success
Emmanuel Amunike, a former U17 Assistant Coach and Young Eaglets International, has tipped Nigeria’s youth side to ease through the World Cup Group stages.
The tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates in October, Manu Garba’s side will face Mexico, Sweden and Iraq in Group F.
Speaking to Goal Nigeria Amunike said he was pleased with the draw but warned the side to underestimate no-one.
“I am optimistic we will do well at the World Cup. We got the call from coach Garba Manu immediately after the draw and there is excitement among the players that the stage is finally set.
“I am not comparing any of the teams in our group because these days, football cannot be predicted. The three countries are good in their own right.”
Amunike also believes that the World Cup is the beginning of a new dawn for Nigerian football: “Every team goes into a competition with the aim of winning the trophy. That has been the mentality we have built into the players from day one.
“Nigeria will not enter into the competition to make up the numbers. We are sure of the potentials in the team and the world will see a brand new Golden Eaglets from October.”
