Goalkeeper – David Seaman, 1990 to 2003: The undisputed No.1 for both the Gunners and England for over a decade and the winner of three league titles.
Right-back – Pat Rice, 1966 to 1980: Better known in recent times as Arsene Wenger’s assistant, but Rice was also a classy full-back who played for the club for 14 years.
Centre-back – David O’Leary, 1975 to 1993: Widely regarded as the north Londoners’ greatest ever player, O’Leary won two league titles and two FA Cups.
Centre-back – Tony Adams, 1983 to 2002: The epitome of a ‘one club player’ and was an iconic captain whilst going onto win four league titles and three FA Cups.
Left-back – Ashley Cole, 1999 to 2006: A product of the youth academy who controversially made a move to Chelsea in 2006, but after winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.
Defensive midfield – Patrick Vieira, 1996 to 2005: Arrived at Highbury as part of Wenger’s French revolution and was an inspired skipper for the club and won three league titles.
Right wing – Liam Brady, 1973 to 1980: Still revered as one of the all-time greats, Brady was a classy winger who later spent seven years in Italy and won two Serie A titles with Juventus.
Left wing – Robert Pires, 2000 to 2006: The second Frenchman in the team and a wide midfielder who did not rely on pace, but did score bags of goals and won two league titles.
Attacking midfield – Charile George, 1968 to 1975: A maestro and a club legend after being born in north London and leading the side to FA Cup triumph in 1971.
Striker – Dennis Bergkamp, 1995 to 2006: Was actually purchased from Inter Milan before Wenger arrived, but came to symbolise what the manager installed in the side with a classy style that won three Premier League titles.
Striker – Thierry Henry, 1999 to 2006: To many Henry is the greatest player to ever grace the pitch for the Gunners and remains the club’s all-time record goal-scorer with 228 strikes.
Verdict:
As good as the Arsenal contingent is and Henry is probably the best player of the two XIs, fanatix is going to give this one to Liverpool due to their relentless list of European Cup winners.
