Alvaro Morata has been a long-standing target for Arsenal, with the young Spaniard having reportedly been interesting Arsene Wenger as early as the recent January transfer window.
The deal had seemed to be dead, but Arsenal have been given fresh hope in their desire to bring Morata to the Emirates Stadium by Carlo Ancelotti confirming that the player will be leaving his club this summer, as reported by the Daily Express.
Morata has been at the club since he was fifteen years old, but now seems ready to leave the Spanish capital in search of the first-team football that he has been unable to secure at the Bernabeu, with Tottenham Hotspur also being mentioned as a potential destination.
Despite retaining a respectable goals-to-games ratio for the club, Morata has been unable to dislodge Frenchman Karim Benzema as Real’s first choice centre forward, whilst the rumoured arrival of Luis Suarez would put the Spaniard further back in the pecking order.
Arsenal are keen to sign a striker having relied almost solely on Olivier Giroud for the whole of the 2013/14 season, with only the fact that fortune smiled on the Gunners regarding Giroud’s fitness keeping Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo away from the first eleven.
